It is estimated that no one has ever seen a fresh dinosaur egg in real life, after all, this creature has long been extinct on Earth. What can be found is only its fossils, but as the hands-on people in the dinosaur model industry (ourselves) could do something DIY dinosaur hatching egg decoration. DIY hatching dinosaur egg model production steps

First Step:

Take a piece of rotten wood (or wooden flooring at a home improvement store, basically) and place it in a container (just above the height of the wood).

A large amount of epoxy resin is poured into the container, and when the resin dries, “a table full of the taste of nature” is formed in a flash.

The wood (the size of the board) can be 40cm*60cm(width * length), and the container can be larger than the wood.

Second Step:

Prepare a large amount of gypsum powder, pour it into a mineral water bottle, and pour in water and mix thoroughly.

Finally, the mixture is poured into the inside of another balloon. By the time the mixture is completely dry, the balloon has hardened (into an egg ball) and is as solid as a rock.

Gypsum powder – 250-500 grams

Mineral water bottle – 600 to 800 ml capacity

Third Step:

Get a graver 🔪 (or several different sizes at your own level) and mark the shell shape on the ball.

Use a small hammer 🔨 to gently tap the center of the ball to create a small shell opening.

Fourth Step

Prepare a piece of clay or Vaseline – clay can be hardened through putting some curing agent; When petroleum jelly dries, it forms a silica-like substance.

The makers had to outline the dinosaur’s eye orbits and skin lines. (Please practice several times on paper first, so as not to make a bad one without experience)

Fifth Step:

Since it’s a hatching dinosaur egg, the dinosaur’s eyes are an essential display item. You can download one or more vivid pictures of dinosaur eyes on the Internet.

Then, these eye patterns were taken to an print shop, and the dinosaur eyes of the photo material were printed out using photo paper by distance and size.

The size of the eyes should be appropriate to the size of your dinosaur egg, between 3 and 5 cm is recommended.

Sixth Step:

In order to make the eyes look more vivid, several transparent masks over the eyes can be made through pouring resin inside; Or buy some soft organic sheets (a soft/elastic acrylic material that can be molded by hand) and press them into small hemispheres (depresses) that fit around the eyeball.

After covering the eyes, apply to the “clay” or “Vaseline” that outlines the shape.

Seventh Step:

Insert the clay or petroleum jelly with the dinosaur’s eye into the shell hole bit by bit (the extra clay or petroleum jelly corners can be cut off).

Then some of the broken little eggshells are slowly stuck to the break by using all-purpose adhesive. So it looks like this hand-made dinosaur egg hatching model comes to life.

Final Decorations:

Stick the dinosaur egg model on the “table” made in the first step, and then put some leaves, lawn or grass as decoration, to look more “prehistoric style”.
