Fun Book Box: How to Build Dino Exhibition in 1㎡

If you had to pick one animal that kids love the most, dinosaurs would top the list. I believe that every child has their own dinosaur story. If you give children the opportunity to make a “dinosaur exhibition” and let them show the dinosaur world in their hearts, I believe that many dinosaur fans will be eager to try.

Now, parents or staff of museums could prepare a set of science popularization box for children, so that kids can use their imaginations to create own dinosaur kingdom. It’s a whole new way of playing. Will bring children a unique science experience.

The way as below:

Children are invited to play an exhibition organizer. Create a dinosaur exhibition by hands. Let the children experience the working process of “curator” on the way to the advancement of dinosaur masters. This not only allows the children to realize the dream of interacting with dinosaurs, but also exercises their hands-on and thinking skills.

Intro about science popularization box:

In this series, readers will become museum curators, curating and crafting their own one-square-meter museum by hands. With the theme of “Dinosaurs”, this book box guides readers to complete knowledge input and scene construction through the two tasks of “digging and restoring a dinosaur” and “building a dinosaur exhibition”. Readers can display the theme knowledge they have learned through hands-on operations and share it with their families and friends.

Audience age:

Children under 7 years old; play with Mom and Dad

Children aged 7-10; play alone or with a partner

10 + years old; play it any way they want

Let’s explore interesting contents from book:

Step one – digging and restoring a dinosaur

Dinosaur Recovery
Dinosaur Recovery

Where did the dinosaurs go? What forms fossils? Where are the homes of dinosaurs in the world? What’s the dig like? How do dig up a dinosaur and recover it?

Along with these questions, let’s do some folding and digging.

Where did the dinosaurs go?

The vast majority of dinosaurs are decomposed, weathered, eroded, and eventually disappeared without a trace, but less than 1% of dinosaurs have the chance to become fossils and survive today. In addition, there was a group of small flying theropod dinosaurs that evolved into birds and are still alive today.

What forms fossils?

1.When the dinosaur died, it fell to the ground.

2.The bodies were quickly buried in mud and sand.

3.When skin and flesh rot away, only bones remain.

4.Over time, mud and sand turn to rock, and bones are replaced by minerals from the ground (a process called fossilization), resulting in fossils.

Where are the homes of dinosaurs in the world?

Dinosaurs used to live all over the world. They are widely distributed in China, Mongolia, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Turkey and Europe. The world’s most famous dinosaur museums are built in the area known as the homes of Dinosaurs.

For example, Museum für Naturkunde (Berlin), Field Museum (Chicago), Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Science (Brussels), Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology (Alberta, Canada), Wyoming Dinosaur Center (Wyoming, USA), Zigong Dinosaur Museum (Zigong, China), Iziko Museum (Cape Town, South Africa), Jurassic Land (Istanbul), Fernbank Museum of Natural History (Atlanta, USA)…

Experience fossil excavation

Wrap a layer of plaster around the outside of the dinosaur skeleton (a small toy). The children can use the prepared hammer and other small tools to break the plaster bit by bit and dig out the scattered dinosaur skeletons inside. And we’re putting together the whole dinosaur skeleton.

The whole thing was like being an archaeologist. The experience is not only fun, but also exercises the children’s hands-on skills.

The road to dinosaur recovery

After dinosaur fossil is unearthed, what else needs to be done to restore it to a complete dinosaur? Skeleton, muscle and skin are necessary.

After assembling the skeletons, wrap a layer of plasticine around the exterior. Shape the plasticine to be dinosaur outline according to the appearance of the dinosaur. Then, use oil paint to make dinosaur skin color.

Step two – building dinosaur exhibition

Before making this exhibition, please think carefully, who is the audience of this exhibition? Where will the exhibition be held? What kind of story do you want to tell the audience? Next, enter the exhibition time together

Info fence poster building

The whole book box is unfolded to naturally form an outer wall of the exhibition area. The wall also became a very interesting informational poster. Either cute or real dinosaurs are printed on it.

Important contents on the wall

1.Information about important dinosaur families, as well as paper stickers of dinosaur skeletons (embedded next to the information).

2.A pictorial extension of different dinosaur eras. (There are different dinosaurs spanning the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, and you can try your hand at arranging the Mesozoic natural scene where dinosaurs dominated)

3.A brief introduction to the evolution of dinosaurs into fossils after their death

4.The discovery of an incredible dinosaur egg, and tells the story of the hatching process of baby dinosaurs.

5.How the dinosaurs ended! Meteorite impacts, climate change, food shortages, plummeting temperatures, etc.

Question: Very interesting science box. Can you recreate the dinosaurs and scenes in it?

Answer: We surely make 1:1 animatronic dinosaur models with motions, and create fiberglass volcano, rock and landform…landscapes.
